Subject: [ODG] Obligations X conference

Dear ODG members,

For those who were planning to attend the Obligations X conference at HLS, a message from the conveners, penned with heavy hearts, is set out below.

With best wishes,
Andrew

Dear Obligations X conferees:

Back in May we announced that we were hoping to be able to hold the Obligations X conference in July 2021. It has since become clear that it will not be possible to do so. As mentioned in our last message, we did give some thought to holding the conference online but do not think the event could work adequately in that format. Accordingly, we must, with great sadness, cancel the event. We are enormously grateful for all of the enthusiastic support for the conference, and in particular for all of the creative thought and work that went into the excellent paper proposals we received.

The next conference in the Obligations series will, as previously announced, be held in Banff, Canada from July 11-15, 2022 (provided the prevailing public health and travel circumstances permit) and will be hosted by Jason Neyers and the team at Western Law. The theme for that conference will be announced in due course.

We hope to bring the Obligations conference to Harvard Law School at some point in the future, and may then revive the 'Private Law Inside and Out' theme, but can't be certain that will be possible or that the theme will be suitable at that time.

Yours,
John, Andrew and Henry
